The Sumerians contributed to the development of metalworking, wheeled carts, and potter's wheels. It was discovered by accident in 1902 when some workers were digging a hole and broke through the ceiling. Agade was defeated and its kingship carried off to Uruk. The top portion of this remarkable piece of art is generally believed to depict African animals being hunted by black-skinned warriors. And, as my classmates gleefully noted, men did put an end to it, for it was a matter of historical record, they said, that the civilization of Minoan Crete was displaced by the apparently patriarchal Mycenaeans.

Both the Mesopotamian irrigation system and that in the Egyptian delta were of the basin type, which were opened by digging a gap in the embankment and closed by placing mud back into the gap. Another interesting fact about Sumerian (and later cuneiform systems as well) is that the numeric system is both decimal (base-10) and sexagesimal (base-60). There is no reason for Homer not to have identified it if he had some specific drug in mind.

Since then, the Sahara comes and goes, just as ice ages do nearby. Kanishka who was the third emperor of this dynasty made the empire flourish most. To understand history, it is important that you understand how "time" periods are denoted and how a "civilization" is different from that of a "non-civilized" culture.
