There are several options to submit your application to the agency through Grants.gov. From the moment a request is received to transport an infant, a neonatologist will consult and assist in management of the infant. If the plasma glucose cannot be raised by glucose infusion alone, other options include a trial of corticosteroids (hydrocortisone 5-15 mg/kg/day IV in 2-3 divided doses or prednisone 2 mg/kg/day by mouth). The Tampa General Hospital NICU has recently been expanded to an 80 bed level III unit that is a designated Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center serving as a major referral center for high risk pregnancies. One exception may be freestanding children's hospitals, which may provide specialty and subspecialty care but transfer newborn infants to other facilities (often the hospital of birth) for lower levels of care as their medical conditions improve.

Birth asphyxia occurs in about 1 to 3 babies per 1000 term deliveries.1-3 Adaptive responses to hypoxemia may lead to vasomotor nephropathy (pre-renal failure) or acute renal failure (ARF) in the neonates.
