Others have lobbied and campaigned against feminism. It revitalises jingoism, chauvinism, flag-waving and foreigner-bashing: Tony Blair is probably the best example. Derrida argued against, in essence, the notion of a knowable center (the Western ideal of logocentrism), a structure that could organize the differential play of language or thought but somehow remain immune to the same "play" it depicts (Abrams, 258-9). In their first year, students can choose an ADHT liberal arts elective that focuses on an aspect of New York City. I read this chapter a while back so it has had some time to sink in and really let me examine our world with this criticism and aspect in mind. The scholar Estelle Freedman compares first and second-wave feminism saying that the first wave focused on rights such as suffrage, whereas the second wave was largely concerned with other issues of equality, such as ending discrimination.

Wichelns was after a speech's persuasive quality.18 This eventually filtered into biblical studies through James Muilenburg, an OT scholar who had some background in classics and literature.19 After several decades of neglect among biblical scholars, rhetorical criticism received some revivifying publicity in 1968, when Muilenburg described the need for it and named the discipline in his SBL presidential address.20 Muilenburg's speech helped provide definition, direction and impetus for this approach to the Scriptures.
